The Cycle of Effective Instruction
The Cycle of Effective Instruction and teaching was developed by Harvest English through more than a decade of teaching English as a Second Language and understanding the needs and difficulties of Chinese students in learning a foreign language. It is a practical and results-oriented way of learning to communicate effectively in English. It is a modular and highly flexible system, where learners are closely supported and encouraged through a cooperative-learning process by team work of both teachers and students alike. The arrows indicate that this is a cycle. All parts of the cycle may be present during the course of one day’s lesson, or the cycle may be developed over the course of several days. The cycle is continuous throughout the students learning process. This cycle is the same regardless of whether the student is learning Speaking, Reading, Writing, Listening, or a specific skill.
Instruction:
During the first portion of each lesson, teachers prepare students for learning with a well prepared lesson plan. Through instruction, questioning and modeling, they lead students through the new content they need to complete the rest of the day’s activities, whether reading a novel, conducting research, or working on a team product.
Guided Practice:
During this stage, the teacher is working along side the students and assisting them as they perform a given task. As the students complete the task, the teacher is helping them with any mistakes they might make or any difficulties they might have.

Review:
During this stage, teachers re-enforce the knowledge that is being taught, review the targeted language and explain or re-model any issues that the student might have had.

Independent Practice:
During this stage, students take control of their    learning, working as partners or teams while teachers  circulate through the room checking with individuals or small groups of learners to monitor comprehension and to clarify misunderstandings. This is a teacher’s chance to meet with students one-to-one for targeted instruction.

Reflection:
During this stage, the teachers and the students go over the content of the learned material through individual or group discussion in order to ensure students have acquired the knowledge of the lesson. Also this stage is used to review previous learned material.

Assessment:
This takes place both formally and informally across the cycle of instruction. Formal assessments take place at the end of each cycle. Informal assessments occur on a daily basis as teachers circulate around the classroom, through the daily products that students or teams complete, and during the wrap-up discussions at the end of a class period. Through this the teachers are able to praise the students progress as well as to locate any weak points the students
might have and set plans of action to assist the students so that they can turn their weak points into strengths.

Life Adaptation:
Life Club Activities offer a fun way for students to immerse themselves in English. Students have a lot of opportunities to interact with students of different learning levels in English in real life situations. Activities can include: Chat Café, Life activities, movie nights, sports events and other special festive events such as Christmas and Halloween parties! You keep learning while having fun!

循环教学法

教学教导:
教学首要就是教师为学生精心准备教学计划。接着,通过教学,提问和规划的周期循环,教师引领学生完成每一天的课后内容,如读一本小说,做研究,或完成团队工作。


实践指导:
在这个阶段,教师一直在学生旁边协助他们完成既定任务。在学生完成任务的过程中,对于他们可能会犯任何错误或可能遇到的困难,教师更是给予最大的帮助。


复习:
复习阶段,教师给学生加强复习讲授过的知识,有针对性的复习学习的语言,解决学生任何可能出现的问题。

单向练习:
单向练习阶段,学生需掌握学习主动权,同伙伴或团队一起合作学习。而教师则以个人或小团体方式在教室对学习者进行检查,监督,疏导。这是教师与学生一对一学习语言的机会。


反思:
在这个阶段,教师和同学们在课堂上通过个人或小组讨论复习已学内容,以确保学生真正掌握知识。另外,在此阶段,复习已学课程亦非常重要。


评估:
评估测试正式或非正式进行。在每个周期的末期会有正式评估。非正式评估,以每日课后作业,小组合作,课前、课堂结束时总结性讨论的形式,在课堂上的循环教学中得以体现。通过评估,教师能够表扬学生的进步,找到学生任何可能的弱点,并设定行动计划来帮助学生把自己的弱点变成优势。


生活俱乐部:
生活俱乐部活动环节提供了一个有趣的学习方式,让学生沉浸在英语趣味世界中。学生有更多机会与不同英语水平的学生在现实生活中进行交流和互动。活动包括:聊天咖啡厅,生活体验,电影之夜,体育赛事和其他特殊节庆活动,如圣诞节和万圣节派对!让你在学习的同时不断获
